PITS (Piedmont International Touring Side) Rugby Club was founded in 1979 and continues its legacy as producing the most intercollegiate athletes from Piedmont High School. Many of the PITS alumni have gone on to play in college (including Cal, Stanford and St. Mary’s to name a few). PITS alumni include Beau McSwain, head rugby coach at Chico State and Matt Sherman, head rugby coach at Stanford. Matt also coached the USA National Team at the World Cup in New Zealand in 2011.
Over the years the PITS rugby teams have played friendly international matches and during the regular season, the team competes in the Bay Conference of the NCYRA. PITS has a boys’ team for 14-18 year olds.
